About Shipping McCorkells
The McCorkells of Ballyarnett have long been connected with the city of Londonderry, from the earliest traceable member of the family William McCorkell (b.1728)they were a major influence in the commercial and political life of the city over the following 2 turbulent centuries.
The information contained within this website is largely the work of Ian Bartlett and I would like to give him due credit here for almost all the research contained within these pages
With the death of Lady Aileen McCorkell on Christmas day 2010 a chapter has ended for McCorkell family in Londonderry, the family home at Ballyarnet occupied since 1845 was sold in May 2011 bringing to an end the association of the family with the city.
So far no McCorkell male from this branch of the McCorkell family has taken a y-dna test (that I am aware of) I would urge any male of the McCorkell line to take the test, simple and Relatively cheap, please contact me if you would like more information or visit https://www.familytreedna.com/public/mccorkle
It has so far, yielded some important information on the family and its origins but a larger Sample size would lead to a greater understanding of the families roots
